The Ministry of Agriculture for the state of Saxony reported a diagnosis of H5N8 avian influenza on a farm located in Bad Lausick, near Leipzig.
The affected farm has been depleted and a quarantine zone established, in accordance with the recommendations of the World Organization of Animal Health, that also mandates surveillance.
This eastern region of Germany joins Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic as diagnosing H5N8 influenza since January 2020.
