Salmonella in Poultry Products from Poland

05/13/2020

From late February through the first week of April 2020 a number of EU nations reported isolation of Salmonella from chicken and turkey products exported from Poland.  Reports were received from the Czech Republic, Romania, Lithuania and also from within Poland.  Salmonella Infantis, S. Newport and S. Enteritidis were identified.  Products contaminated with Salmonella included chicken breast fillets, chicken quarters, minced turkey meat, chilled turkey meat, chicken and turkey legs.

Isolations were made using standard EU procedures and were based on the presence of the potential pathogen in twenty-five grams of tissue. The recoveries of Salmonella by reporting nations were posted in the European Commission RASFF portal classified as "serious" in the risk-decision column.
