Chicken Favored by Consumers for Stay-At-Home Meals

05/17/2020

A recent study conducted by Datassential, based in Chicago, determined that 79 percent of responders favored chicken as their stored protein.  Ground beef was second with 60 percent of consumers favoring purchase and approximately one-third purchased pork chops.

In the study it was determined that 70 percent of consumers held a one-week supply of meat followed by 26 percent storing two to three weeks.  Only 13 percent of those surveyed had purchased a month's supply of meat with freezer capacity as the limiting factor.

This study would have been instructive if the questions had extended to where meat was purchased, whether in conventional supermarkets or club stores and also details on availability and price sensitivity.
