Poultry Plant in Germany Affected by COVID-19

07/21/2020

Testing revealled that at least 66 of 1,200 workers at a chicken processing plant located in Lohne, in  Lower Saxony have been diagnosed with COVID-19.  The plant operated by the Wiesenhof Group will continue to function with increased precautions to prevent spread of the infection.

In a separate item, the large Tonnies hog plant in Gutersloh has now reopened following installation of HEPA filtration in the HVAC system. Contaminated air allegedly contributed to dissemination of SARS-CoV-2 responsible for COVID-19.  The extensive outbreak in the plant resulted in home confinement for as many as 500,000 residents of the municipality in which the plant is located and disrupted hog slaughter in Germany and neighboring E.U. nations.
