Brazil Courts Intervene Following COVID in JBS Plant

07/21/2020

A Federal Judge in Brazil has ordered workers at a JBS hog plant in Tres Passos, located in Rio Grande do Sul state to remain home for 14 days.  According to records, 40 percent of the complement of 1,000 workers have tested positive for COVID-19.  The Tres Passos facility is also banned to export to China.  According to prosecutors in Rio Grande do Sul state, 117 workers were identified as being infected at the end of June but by mid July, 400 had been diafnosed with COVID-19.

Over the past six weeks a series of court-ordered shutdowns of plants has occurred followed by appeals and reopening with court-mandated protective measures.
