Aviagen Hosts Students from County Career Technical Center

05/19/2023

Aviagen recently hosted students to a 12-week poultry class. Participants were from Limestone County Career Technical Center located in Athens Alabama.  The initial program involving 30 students has now expanded to involve three high schools with 120 students and has been extended to Cumberland County Schools in Crossville, TN.

The program allows students to obtain an appreciation of poultry production and provides both theory and practical exposure.  Students gain an understanding of the extent of research and development, the need for planning and the interdependency of feed production, hatcheries, biosecurity and welfare.

Karri Morton, Human Resources Manager and coordinator of the program stated, “We are extremely proud of the growth and success of this community outreach project.  The course is designed to set students on a journey of lifelong learning in the proper care that leads to growing healthy robust birds.”  She added, “Our sustainability as an industry depends on our success in attracting youth and inspiring them to be passionate about poultry.”
