New Restrictions on Poultry Farms in South Korea

According to the English-language The Korea Herald, January 2nd Edition, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of South Korea will impose restrictions on the location of poultry farms. Licenses for new farms will be withheld in areas where avian influenza has occurred previously, presumably due to dissemination of virus by migratory birds. Farmers intending to raise poultry will also be subject to approval based on qualifications, which presumably will include knowledge of biosecurity and related aspects of husbandry.

Separation of farms is also included in the new regulations with a minimum distance of 1,500 yards between adjacent facilities.
