01/04/2019

Lidl will open three stores in the Atlanta metropolitan area during late January through February 2019. The locations will be in Powder Springs, Snellville and Mableton.

According to the company press release, there are 10,500 Lidl stores in 29 nations Worldwide.

Initially Lidl planned for 50 stores in Georgia with the first store opened in Augusta in 2017. Subsequently, the company scaled back expansion plans but is intent on focusing on Georgia and the Southeast.

Jessica Haggard, a spokesperson for Lidl, commented to the Atlanta Business Chronicle that the company received a positive response from the Augusta opening. As with the North Carolina Research Triangle area, metropolitan Atlanta is a competitive market. Publix will open a GreenWise market and Whole Foods Market will launch a 365-store concept in the region.
