WTO Reviews Case Instigated by China

The World Trade Organization Dispute Settlement Body will review a case brought China arising from a claim made during the previous Administration.  China is seeking $2.4 billion as retaliatory sanctions following imposition of tariffs on solar panels, wind towers and steel cylinders.

Washington is disputing the validity of the WTO ruling claiming that judges had applied an incorrect legal interpretation in the dispute initiated in 2012 challenging the U.S. anti-subsidy tariffs valued at $7.3 billion.  The U.S. imposed countervailing duties following 17 investigations conducted between 2007 and 2012.

The U.S. together with other G-7 Nations has committed to reforming WTO rules and procedures.
