Brazil Complies With COVID-19 Certification Required by China

Previously CHICK-NEWS commented on the requirement imposed by authorities in China to certify that consignments of red meat and chicken were “free” of coronavirus.  This requirement is considered unnecessary given that there is no evidence that SARS-CoV-2 the virus responsible for COVID-19 can be transmitted on food or agricultural commodities.  Notwithstanding the presence of COVID-19 cases in packing plants in Brazil with prevalence rate of up to 35 percent of workers, producers in Brazil have supplied the requested certification.

The Brazilian Animal Protein Association claims to follow recommendations of the World Health Organization and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. They claim to follow standards established by both Brazil and China with respect to prevention of COVID-19.
