Ahold Delhaize to Concentrate on ESG in 2021

Consistent with European ownership, Ahold Delhaize will emphasize environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects in operations in 2021.  By adopting a fully integrated self-distribution model, the Group of banners will conserve energy through efficiency.  The company will reduce plastic waste from own-brand packaging with a 2025 target for completion of the project. Recycled materials will be sourced for packaging.

Following an EU initiative, Ahold Delhaize will apply Nutriscore and Guiding Stars rating for their own-brand items. Early in 2021, the company will disclose the proportion of food sales achieving one to three stars under the Guiding Stars rating system.

In commenting on innovations, Frans Muller, President and CEO of Ahold Delhaize noted, "we continue to adapt to changes we are seeing in consumer shopping patterns and behavior".  He added, "over the coming years we will invest in our business to solidify our position as an industry-leading local omni-channel retailer and increase our share of the consumer wallet".
