A Waco, TX plant operated by Pilgrim's Pride is recalling 30 tons of breast nugget products. According to an FSIS release on June 28th, the Class II recall is due to the possibility of contamination with a flexible rubber material. The frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nuggets were manufactured on May 6th and packed in four-pound plastic bags bearing the establishment number P-20728. Items were shipped to retail stores in Arizona, Idaho, Oregon and Texas. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reaction.
Cynically, flexible rubber fragments may have a more acceptable texture than product derived from broilers demonstrating pectoral myopathy.
