Virginia Mandates COVID Protection

07/20/2020

Closely following the regulations introduced in Michigan, The Commonwealth of Virginia, a major broiler producing state, has implemented uniform workplace rules to limit dissemination of COVID-19.  Regulations follow Federal guidelines established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  The Virginia rule would require all employers to actually conform to Federal guidelines, which at this stage are recommendations on a national basis.

Requirements will include social distancing, face covering, access to hand washing, and regular cleaning of high-contact surfaces.  Employees should be notified within 24 hours if a coworker is diagnosed with COVID-19.  Employees diagnosed with the infection must remain at home in isolation and can only return to work after 10 days of quarantine, or following two consecutive negative tests.
