Incidence Rate of Salmonellosis from Contaminated Beef Increases

Predictably the number of cases of Salmonella Newport have increased according to the CDC. As of October 23rd, 120 cases have been confirmed across 22 states.

The vehicle of infection is ground beef processed by JBS Tolleson in Arizona. On October 4th following a trace back investigation, the company recalled 3,250 tons of product with an additional recall on October 5th. Affected product was produced and packed from July 26th through September 7th.

Additional cases are anticipated since consumers may have frozen beef contaminated with Salmonella in their freezers.
