FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb Resigns

03/11/2019

Dr. Scott Gottlieb, clearly one of the best qualified and competent appointees of the present Administration has announced his retirement.

During his tenure at the FDA, he introduced changes to expedite approval of drugs and medical devices, and enhanced inspection and surveillance to promote public health. He was instrumental in driving action to reduce cigarette use and initiated plans to limit both teenage smoking and use of alternatives to cigarettes.

His tenure was unique in that he engendered the support of his subordinates. Dow Jones quoted Dr. Richard Paztur, Director of the FDA Oncology Center of Excellence as stating “Commissioners come and commissioners go, but Scott Gottlieb hands down has been the best.”
