Status of 2020 Corn and Soybean Crops

11/16/2020

The USDA Crop Progress Report released on November 16th documented the 2020 corn and soybean crops as mature due to the earlier start in the Spring of 2020 compared to 2019.  Almost all (95 percent) the 2020 corn crop has been harvested, significantly more than at this time last year, (87 percent). Almost all of the soybean crop is in the bin (96 percent), progressing at a slightly higher rate than the corresponding week of last year, (93 percent).

Reference is made to the November 10th WASDE Report #606 under the STATISTICS tab, documenting actual 2020 acreage, projected yields and ending stocks for corn and soybeans. The Pro Farmer 7-State Crop Tour projected corn and soybean yields of 177.5 and 52.5 bushels per acre. These were respectively, higher than USDA estimates, revised to 175.8 and 50.7 bushels per acre in the November 10th WASDE Report. The difference was attributed to late season drought in the Midwest
