Decades low temperatures have contributed to mortality in feedlots, impacted growth and conversion and delayed transport to packing plants. It is estimated that on Monday 15th, cattle slaughter was 20 percent below normal at 92,000 
head. Hog slaughter was down 15 percent to 425,000 head. It is anticipated that reduced production will extend past the third week of the month creating problems for hog producers ready to ship market-ready hogs.
Thankfully power is being restored and the week-long freeze is moderating with warmer weather but leaving widescale devestation behind.
