The National Pork Producers Council and a consortium of restaurants had their motion granted for a preliminary injunction enjoining the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from enforcing housing requirements as specified in a law paralleling California Proposition #12. The suit named Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey and John Lebeaux, Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture 
Resources as respondents. The petitioners maintained that the few relatively small pork producers in Massachusetts and in New England states are not compliant with the requirements for group housing of sows. The filing with the U.S. District Court request a stay in the implementation of the law until the Supreme Court has ruled on the California Proposition 12 appeal. The filing implied that the Supreme Court will in all probability reverse the decision of the Ninth Circuit regarding the constitutionality of Proposition #12 based on interference with interstate commerce.
