House Spending Bill - October Shutdown Averted

On Wednesday September 26th, the House passed an $854 billion spending bill representing 77 percent of annual discretionary spending and combining five bills into a single measure.  The House passed the comprehensive bill by a vote of 361 to 61 following previous passage in the Senate by a vote of 93 to 7.

The House Freedom Caucus had intended to include $25 billion in funds for a southern border wall and to include an immigration provision in addition to deferring the $180 billion in funds for the Departments of Labor and of Health and Human Services.  The amendment was not adopted.  The third package of bills funding the Departments of Agriculture, Interior, and Transportation has yet to be enacted.

Passage of the Wednesday September 26 funding bill will maintain Government function through December 7th.
