Select Genetics to Construct North Carolina Turkey Hatchery


Select Genetics, headquartered in Willmar, MN, has announced the construction of a turkey hatchery to be located in Wayne County, NC.  The project will cost in excess of $60 million and will have an annual set of 55 million eggs.  Existing small hatcheries will be consolidated in the new project.


North Carolina Secretary of Commerce, Machelle Baker Sanders, stated, “North Carolina ranks second in the nation for turkey production making it a great fit for Select Genetics.”


North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper commented, “Our farming legacy continues to attract innovative agriculture companies.  North Carolina’s $95 billion agriculture and agribusiness economy continues to evolve and grow, creating more opportunities for our hardworking and skilled workforce.”


The One North Carolina Fund provided a performance grant of $75,000 as an inducement to locate in the state.  In accordance with funding rules, local governments will match the state grant.
