On October 9th, Smithfield Foods Inc. announced their intention to close a processing facility in Charlotte, NC. Production will be transferred to the Tarheel, NC. facility to allow the use of existing capacity. The closure will affect 107 employees who will be offered an option to relocate to other Smithfield facilities. Those wishing to remain through the fourth quarter will receive an incentive package.
